Do It Yourself Windpower and Build Solar Panels

There are a number of articles out there offering advice and instructions on how to create your own windpowersource and build solarpanels in your home. Unfortunately much of this information seems to be written only to mislead potential customers into investing in how to build solar panel plans and instructions on generating windpower that aren’t very useful and won’t create the right energy source for your home. 

In theory, windpower generators are not overly complicated to understand and when you have access to the right information it is possible to build solar panels yourself. It is not my purpose to discourage anyone from aiming to achieve their own self built source of windpower or to be able to build solar panels. I do believe, however, that it is important that people have access to the right information to ensure they can successfully build solar panels and generate windpower for their home.

Using quality components to generate windpower and to build solar panels cannot be substituted with ducttape and good intentions.

When looking to construct a windpower generator the most important components are the rotor blades and the motor or generator. These are the components you don’t want to get wrong. The same is true when looking to build solar panels yourself. There are certain components and features that need to be of the highest quality and understanding.

The main considerations for the construction of your home windpower generator include the rotors/blades, generator and the body, tail and slip rings. With a thorough understanding of how each of these components work together to produce windpower, you will be in a better position to select the best quality components and construct a durable windpower generator for your home. Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

• The rotors may be constructed out of plastic, pvc, wood, fibreglass and aluminium. When looking for a quality material to for your windpower rotor blades you need to consider factors such as durability, flexibility and what materials will best withstand the force created through wind and the generator.
• The generator is probably the most essential consideration for your windpower source. A quality generator head is a must for a DIY windpower generator. Ensure that your selected generator is designed to work as a power generator, installing incorrectly designed generators will be the make or break of your homebuilt windpower generator.
• The body, tail and slip rings are fairly straightforward components for your windpower generator. However, one key tip is to ensure your design doesn’t include exposed slip rings, these tend to weather easily and can also cause major faults with your windpower generator.

The design and considerations to build solar panels does require a bit more in depth knowledge and understanding than the windpower generator. However, with the ability to build solar panels yourself, you do stand to create a lot more cost savings in your home than you would with a self built windpower generator. The cost of making your own solar panels is so low in comparison to purchasing ready-made panels.

The majority of the common components can be found in your local hardware store. In order to build solar panels you will need materials such as plywood, sheets of glass and copper wire. You will also need to be able to identify and local photovoltaic cells. When you know where to look it can be quite simple and inexpensive to build solar panels yourself.
